ALC (A La Carte)

ALC are a UK based company underwritten by Axa PPP. They offer both individual and group medical plans that are available here in Hong Kong in the form of the Prima Premier and Prima Classic.

Prima Premier – Full inpatient and outpatient cover with a good annual limit and cover you would expect from a comprehensive international plan.

Prima Classic – A worthwhile cheaper option than the Premier although there are lifetime limits on certain benefits which can prove costly if the worst should happen.

Both plans offer MHD for 10 or more employees and this could be important as the alternative with ALC is moratorium underwriting. This is a method of underwriting which can cause problems as no medical history is disclosed at the time of application and the applicant is effectively underwritten at claim time. If the insurance company deems a condition to be pre-existing at the point of claim, they can deny any payment which means the insured are predominantly relying on the magnanimity of insurance companies.
