Approximately 2.8 kilograms of this batch were imported into Hong Kong by Chef’s Garden Limited and distributed to the retailer Feather & Bone. The CFS has issued a public warning and is working with the importer to recall the affected product. Consumers who have purchased this batch are advised not to consume it and can contact the importer’s hotline at 2819 7500 for more information.

Health Implications and Precautions

Consuming aflatoxin-contaminated food can lead to aflatoxin poisoning, which may cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Long-term exposure increases the risk of liver damage and cancer. To avoid these risks, consumers should check the batch number and best before date of their sunflower seeds. If they match the affected batch, the product should not be eaten. Proper food storage is also crucial to prevent mold growth. Keep sunflower seeds in a cool, dry place and avoid exposing them to moisture. If symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning occur, seek medical attention immediately.

The CFS is actively investigating the contamination incident and has taken steps to remove the affected product from the market. In this case, the importer, Chef’s Garden Limited, is cooperating with the recall process. The retailer, Feather & Bone, has also been instructed to stop selling the contaminated batch.
